New England Sacred Harp Convention

September 19, 2016

You are warmly invited to join us in New Haven, Connecticut, for a wonderful weekend of singing at the 2016 New England Sacred Harp Convention. What could be more delightful than to come together with all of our friends to share music and community and delectable seasonal fare over two glorious October days? The crisp air, the dazzling blue sky, the Autumnal splendor of the trees, the scent of apple and cinnamon wafting over from the dessert table - how could we keep from singing!

We will sing from The Sacred Harp (1991 Denson edition) in the Old Refectory at the Yale Divinity School, 409 Prospect Street in New Haven, on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd October. Singing on both days will commence at 10am.

After the singing on Saturday, Sacred Harp historian Aldo Ceresa will lead an expedition to the Grove Street Cemetery, where he will conduct a graveside lesson on Daniel Read and we’ll sing some Read tunes that aren’t in the Sacred Harp.

On Saturday evening, Ian Quinn will host a social in the nearby (and highly picturesque) town of Guilford.

Further details and a map of the singing site will be available in the coming weeks.
